In January 2018, OSA Impact gave its first Innovation Grant to Krushaco, an agricultural technology and services company based in Odisha, India. Along with the seed funding, OSA Impact agreed to provide advisory services to help Krushaco develop its strategy to serve the farmers of Odisha.
Krushaco worked to develop relationships with farmers in rural areas by organizing free seminars where the farmers could learn about optimal planting and harvesting techniques from researchers and scientists from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology. It simultaneously worked to develop partnerships with suppliers of agricultural inputs. Krushaco then became the one-stop procurement, delivery and support hub for small & marginal farmers. It ensures that farmers get the right inputs through digital innovation at village level enhancing agricultural production while securing against adverse environmental factors.
Since summer of 2018, Krushaco has been providing these pre-harvest services to farmers in Odisha. It has supported 212 farmers in total: 71 farmers have purchased pre-harvest products from Krushaco and Krushaco has served 141 farmers with free advisory services from agriculture experts. Krushaco is actively iterating its business model now; this past fall it engaged with farmers in pre-harvest time and it is now preparing its supply chain to offer post-harvest services in the coming months.
